Dr. Díóg O’Connell

I lecture in Screenwriting, Film Studies, Irish Cinema and Television Drama at undergraduate level on the BA in English, Media + Cultural Studies. I teach feminism and narrative studies at post-graduate level. My current research includes an in depth study of Irish female screenwriters and an archival study on the Film Company of Ireland (1916-1920).


Books include: ‘New Irish Storytellers: Narrative Strategies in Contemporary Film’, Intellect, 2010. ‘Documentary in a Changing State: Ireland since the 1990s’ (ed.) Cork University Press, 2012. In addition I have a wide publication record in peer review papers, chapters in books, critical reviews, conference papers etc.

Research projects

Currently research Ellen O'Mara Sullivan and the Film Company of Ireland (1916-1919) - based on letters she wrote in 1918 / 1919 this study explore to what extent she was involved in the Film Company of Ireland at a creative and business level.
