What is Organisational Psychology?
Organisational psychology is the study of the human behaviour in the workplace. It is sometimes referred to as industrial or occupational psychology. It is the study of the importance of relationships between the individual, the organisation and society. It encompasses all psychological phenomena that are associated with or impacted upon by participating in the workforce, either as a manager or part of a work-based-team.
Organisational psychology involves the examination of topics such as recruitment and placement, training and instruction, organisational design and structure, organisational culture, performance appraisals, job satisfaction and motivation, stress and work, leadership, career management and the role of technology in the workplace. Specifically, organisational psychology considers the impact of psychological principles on the working environment.
The Certificate in Organisational Psychology is a part-time, special purpose award. Classes are held on one evening per week for one academic year. Students are required to complete assignments during the year; however, there are no formal written examinations.
Aims and Objectives
The programme aims to provide graduates with a basic understanding of how humans interact, perform and behave in work environment. On completion of the programme you will be able to:
- analyse behaviour in organisations
- explain how to train and motivate within organisations
- describe how personality and culture can affect the interaction between an individual and an organisation
- plan and execute a recruitment campaign
What will I be able to do when I graduate?
- On completion of this programme, you will have a number of alternative routes available at IADT.
- If you already hold an Honours Degree in Psychology you may be eligible to apply for a suitable research postgraduate organisational psychology related position.
- If you do not hold an Honours Degree, you may be interested in our BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology

What are the Entry Requirements?
Leaving Certificate Examination or equivalent (NQF Level 5). Applicants without this can also be considered based on their prior experience and learning (APEL).
What are the fees?
In 2009/10, €400 plus an examination fee
