Accessing Student Emails
To access your Student e-mail from the Web browser, do the following:
Connect to the Internet and start Internet Explorer (must be version 5 or higher). Go to our website Http://www.iadt.ie Click on the student email linkYou will receive the following message:

Click Yes to Proceed.
You will then see the following screen:

Type in your username (institute\n00012345) and password and select either Premium or Basic under the client section and either Public or Private under Security and click the Log On button.
There are 2 sections: Client and Security
Client Section
Premium will load Outlook Web Access 2003 with all of the features of Outlook. Premium will take more bandwidth and will work best with high speed Internet Access (RoadRunner, DSL, Earthlink Highspeed). *** Only available using internet explorer.***
Basic will load Outlook Web Access 2003 with all of the basic features of email. Basic may be a better option over a dial up connection.
Security Section
Public or shared computer is the recommended setting.
Private computer will allow for longer periods of inactivity before automatically logging off the user.
IF YOU CHOOSE BASIC

Using Outlook Web Access 2003 in Basic view will allow only basic functions of email. You will still be able to view a daily calendar, options, junk email, tasks, and contacts. Basic view does not allow drag and drop and folder view as well as other options that the premium view will allow.
IF YOU CHOOSE PREMIUM

You will able to see all items that you can view through using Outlook. see Fig 1.

Outlook Web Access 2003 has many customizable settings and features. Including the following:
- Out of Office Messages
- Messaging options (change messages displayed per page anywhere from 5 - 100 messages per screen, mail notifications, font options, & mailbox signature options).
- Reading Pane options
- Spell Check function
- Email Security Options
- Junk Mail options
- Appearance settings
- Date, calendar, and reminder options (set reminders will appear through web access in the same fashion that they do in Outlook)
- Contact options (The dental school address book, and outlook contacts are available through web access)
- Recover Deleted items. (keeps deleted items for 1 days after they are deleted from the deleted items folder).
- Outlook Rules
- Drag and drop messages
Using Outlook Web Access 2003
Maneuvering through Web Access
Outlook Web Access 2003 looks identical to Outlook 2003 and has much of the same functionality. Below are the 8 main items (Shown in red on the image below) that are explained to use Web Access 2003. Click the Help button for a thorough explanation of all Outlook Web Access 2003 settings.

1) Sending an Email
To send an email click the New Message button on the top toolbar

The Following Window will open and allow you to enter email addresses manually or click the To button for the find names search tool to open. In the Find Names tool fill in any part of the name that you want and click the Find button. The tool will return the information requested. Click the recipient that you want to send the message to and then select either the To, Cc (Carbon Copy), or Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy) fields and click close. In the example Le was typed in the last name field, every last name starting with le was returned. You can change the Find names in: field to Global Address List (Dental school address book) or your contacts stored on the Exchange Server. To add an attachment click the paper clip Icon (attachment rules still take affect through web access, attachments must be less than 5 Megabytes in size and follow attachment blocking rules). Type in the email message and subject and click send.

2) Scrolling through pages of messages

Click here to change the page to display more messages. The single right arrow will scroll one page forward, the arrow with a line will scroll to the last page of messages. Under The options setting the number of displayed messages per page can be set to a number between 5 - 100 messages per page.
3) Changing View.
Click here to change the way your messages are viewed.
4) Deleting items.
Right Click the deleted items and select empty deleted items.5) Junk Email
This folder contains any junk email that you have received. To delete your junk email right click the deleted items folder and select Empty Junk E-Mail. The junk mail filter will filter out unwanted email that meets the junk mail filter that you set. To add an item to the Junk Senders list do the following:
Right click on the message that is considered junk mail and select Add Sender

6) Refresh email listing.

When you receive new mail your folder list on the left will show blue numbers that show how many new messages you have. The email listing in the middle window will not automatically show new email click the refresh button for the middle window to update and show new messages. (You can also click the refresh button within Internet Explorer to refresh the list of emails)
7) Reading Pane Options

The reading pane is used to show the email in a separate window. This window can be turned off, situated on the right or on the bottom. Click this button to select where you want the reading pane to appear.
8) Logging Off

Make sure that you log off when you are done using Web Access. Just closing the Internet Explorer window may not be enough. If you have multiple Internet Explorer windows open one of the other windows will be able to open your email. Make it a practice of Logging off. You will see the following window when you click the logoff button.
