How to Apply

Access Office

The Access Office is responsible for increasing third level participation of students from specific under-represented target groups, including students with a disability, adult learners and students who are socio-economically disadvantaged. Improving this access is an important part of the mission of IADT, and these students add an important and colourful dimension to college life.

The Access Office

  • assists these students – many of whom may not have had previous experience of college life – to prepare for and integrate into third level education by providing confidential and personal support.
  • Offers continuing practical advice to students during their time in the Institute
  • Provides an interlink between access students, student services and college life.

Students with Disabilities and/or Learning Difficulties

You will be very welcome at IADT. We will try our very best to create an accessible and open learning environment for you. In return it is essential that you identify clearly to the Institute (via the Access Officer or Student Services Manager) at the outset any disability, medical or psychological needs that may impact on your academic progress. Please note that subject to appropriate professional assessment and guidance, the Institute can only guarantee support within the limits of its resources.

Funding for Students with Disabilities or specific learning difficulties

A special Fund, set up by the National Office for Equity of Access to Higher Education, supports the educational and technological needs of students with disabilities. The Access Officer makes applications to this Fund on behalf of the student.

Student Assistance Fund

This Fund, organised by the National Office of Equity of Access to Higher Education, provides discretionary support to students who face financial difficulties. The fund is generally used to provide short-term, emergency support in areas such as class materials, childcare and transport costs. It is not for long-term problems such as accommodation costs or fees. A confidential application is available from the Student Union Office or website (www.iadtsu.ie), Institute notice boards and Access Office.

If you find yourself in difficulty, financial or otherwise, we are happy to provide advice and assistance.

Millennium Partnership Fund

The Fund supports students from disadvantaged areas who are attending higher education programmes. Partnership Companies and Community Groups manage the fund locally. Contact Head Office 01 2400 700 for further information.

Back to Education Allowance (BTEA)

To qualify for the Back to Education Allowance you must be at least 21 years old and be receiving social welfare payments for at least 12 months. The BTEA is not payable during the summer months although you may be eligible for Unemployment Assistance or Unemployment Benefit during this period.  Contact the BTEA section at the Department of Social & Family Affairs ((01) 874 8444).
