Below is some advice and information for Parents and Family of IADT students.

Q (PF1): What is IADT doing/what is its position regarding Pandemic (H1N1)2009?
A:
IADT is planning for the eventuality of the Pandemic on Campus and has been briefed by the HSE and the Department of Education and Science.  The Institute has established a Management Steering Group to oversee the planning and implementation of actions to protect the student population during the Pandemic.  The full details and advice can be located on our website
www.iadt.ie .

The Institute has also contacted the HSE to offer the campus as a mass vaccination centre, should a vaccine become available for distribution.  We will keep this website updated with regard to this.

Q (PF2): I have just heard that my son/daughter may have influenza/flu symptoms and they are a student in IADT. What do I need to do as a parent or guardian?
A:
You need to ensure that your son/daughter contacts their GP for advice.

If they are on Campus, they can contact (not visit) our medical centre by phone at 01 239 4760.  They will then be advised of what to do to get treatment. Please note that the Medical Centre is only authorized to have discussions with the patient themselves

If they are at home with you or if they are in their own accommodation in Dublin, they should not attend campus until they have recovered.  They should also should contact their relevant School Office and speak to the School Administrator, the numbers are [insert numbers as bullets] and are available on our website.  Your son/daughter should have the name and year of their programme and their student number available when they make this call.

If they are in their own accommodation in Dublin, they should consider returning home until they have recovered, they should seek the advice of their GP before doing this.

Q (PF3): My son/daughter has been diagnosed with Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and has been advised to stay away from Campus, they are living alone in Dublin and I cannot go and stay with them, how will they manage?
A:
Your son/daughter needs to stay in their accommodation and to avoid unnecessary contact with others, this will assist in the containment of the Pandemic.  They should make contact by phone with their friends and/or classmates.  Their friends and classmates should assist them in getting food supplies while they are recovering.  The IADT Student Union has put in place a system of “Flu Buddies” to support students who are living away from home.  Your son/daughter should enquire from the Student Union about the “Flu Buddies” system, preferably before they become unwell.

Q (PF4): My Son/Daughter has been diagnosed with Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and has been advised to stay away from Campus, they are missing some of their lectures, how will they catch up?
A:
The Institute is conscious of the potential disruption to scheduled lectures and to students participation in their learning during the Pandemic. Any lectures that need to be postponed will be delivered at a later date or an alternative arrangement will be put in place to ensure that the relevant material is delivered. Your son’s/daughter’s lecturers will keep the students advised of these changes.  All relevant material will also be placed on the Institute’s Virtual Learning Environment (“Blackboard”) and your son/daughter can access this from home.

Q (PF5): I have heard that my son/daughter has contracted Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 in IADT and I want to speak to someone about their condition?
A:
The Institute has placed all relevant information regarding the Pandemic on its website and this is available for you to read.  We are unable to discuss individual cases with anyone other than the patient themselves.

Q (PF6): My son/daughter is a student in IADT and I MUST speak to them immediately as I want to let them know I have influenza symptoms.
A:
You should attempt to contact them by mobile phone, this is the best method of contacting a student.  Due to the nature of our timetables and teaching methodologies, it is not possible for us to locate your son/daughter on Campus.

Q (PF7): My son/daughter is a student in IADT and they are HIGH Risk and they may not have disclosed this information so who can I speak to in IADT to give them this information?
A:
Your son/daughter should make contact in the first instance with the IADT Medical Centre at 01 239 4760. Please note that the Medical Centre is only authorized to have discussions with the patient themselves.

Q (PF8): My son/daughter was at home for the week-end and has been diagnosed with Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and I need to contact someone in IADT. Who do I contact?
A:
Your son/daughter should contact his/her relevant School Office and speak to the School Administrator the numbers are available on our website.  Your son/daughter should have the name and year of their programme and their student number available when they make this call.

Q (PF9): My son/daughter was at home for the week-end and has been diagnosed with Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and I telephoned IADT over the week end, left a voicemail but no one has replied to my message. What should I do?
A:
It is probable that your voicemail has been passed to the appropriate person and that your son/daughter will receive a response at the earliest possible opportunity.  If you continue to have concerns, your son/daughter should ring his/her relevant School Office, the numbers are available on our website, and speak to the School Administrator. Other information in relation to the Pandemic is available to your son/daughter on our website.

Q (PF10): I have tried to telephone IADT and the telephone is unanswered can I email IADT? I must speak to someone in charge in IADT as I have a son/daughter studying there.
A:
you may e-mail your queries to the Institute.  Where you know the name of the individual you wish to e-mail you may email them at first name (dot) surname at iadt (dot) ie or alternatively at
info@iadt.ie .
