Entrepreneurship students from IADT achieved second place in the recent national Fantasy Budget competition

22-01-2009

Entrepreneurship students from IADT achieved second place in the recent national Fantasy Budget competition run by the Irish Taxation Institute. This is a third level competition to find the tax policy and public expenditure initiatives most likely to improve the Irish economy. The team consisted of Laura Frankish (Clonskeagh, Dublin), Karen Doyle (Wicklow town), Richard O' Donnell (Harold's Cross, Dublin) and Gordon Curtis (Greystones, Wicklow). The students used their experience of running their own on-campus businesses to propose four ways of reducing the budget deficit.

“The real life experience of designing, budgeting and launching a financial business magazine in 2008 gave us the confidence and skills for this competition”   explained Richard. The students’ winning proposal focused on encouraging enterprise while reducing public expenditure. Laura, Karen, Richard and Gordon are in the final year of the Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Entrepreneurship (CAO code DL245). This achievement builds on the success of last year’s team from IADT which came third in this same competition. Clearly IADT entrepreneurship students know their taxes!
