As a graduating film student, IADT has provided me with the cinematic vocabulary to express stories on celluloid. I also have the basic technical skills to bring a film from initial concept to the finished piece. In the future I would like to set up a production company to produce work and to start my first independent feature.

Programme: BA Photography (DL042)

This course is about understanding the value of a structured approach to creative work, and I have built this into the work that I do. I work part-time for a newspaper as a photojournalist, and several of my images have been published in magazines. Doing this programme has given me the confidence in my abilities to perform as a practitioner outside the protective atmosphere of college.

I have acquired many skills at IADT, both by working in groups and on my own, and I still have a year to go and a lot to learn. Who knows what the future will bring, but I am close to fulfilling my dream, which was to go back to school and learn how to use computers. As a mature student it is a great privilege to have the opportunity to finish my education.

Over the past four years I’ve enjoyed the cultural studies aspect of the programme, particularly feminism. For my thesis I concentrated on feminist film theory and, since my ultimate goal is to lecture in the field of Women’s Studies, I’d like to research this area further with an MA and a PhD. We’ve been really lucky over the four years, with loads of brilliant lecturers who’ve been so helpful in preparing us for the world outside IADT!

My four years in IADT have been very rewarding. Our lecturers take a proactive and practical approach to teaching, which has prepared me for the real business world. The course is very entrepreneurially focused – I have studied and created ideas for future business ventures. When it comes to my career I know that no matter what path I choose, I will use my degree to the best potential. I will always carry with me the skills and capabilities I learned while studying at IADT.

Programme: Business studies with arts management DL242

I had the time of my life: as assistant stage manager I was responsible for two very successful shows, which required me to use my initiative when things went wrong – as they always do in live performances. I have also applied to Smurfit Business School to do a Masters in project management. My long-term aim is to work in event management, preferably in my own company.

Programme: DL 142 – Multimedia Systems

I chose this programme because it fills the gap between 'programmer' and 'designer'. Now I am well equipped to do both. I most enjoyed the game development, web development and the design classes, especially as small class sizes mean lecturers talk to students individually. Also, the programme is 50/50 practical/theory. From here I have many choices: I could become a web developer/designer, Database administrator, Instructional designer, Flash developer, Mobile content developer and many more...

I always expected that spending four years of my life anywhere new would teach me many new skills. However, not even three years have passed and I am already surprising myself with how much I’ve actually learned and experienced at IADT. Although the possibilities seem to be endless, I hope to move towards counselling and hypnotherapy. It has always been my goal to follow that path and this course provides the perfect stepping stone.

This is our second year of successful entry into the annual international HCI (Human Computer Interaction) Competition. For me, being able to compete against postgraduates from America’s leading universities is an excellent summation of the skills you can acquire from our Psychology degree. No wonder industry and other colleges are taking notice of this programme’s success.

My aim is to contribute to HCI research whether in the lab or in industry. I believe the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired at IADT will help me to achieve my aim, wherever I end up.
