In level one, students are introduced to the broad range of subjects and processes both practical and academic, through workshops, lectures, studio projects, and assignments.

Level one subjects are presented as individual areas of study and are designed to familiarise students with a range of studio and workshop methods, skills and techniques relevant to visual communications design.

Studio subjects include: design basics, drawing and image-making, photography, screenprint, typographics, e-graphics, 3D/spatial design and interdisciplinary design. Click on a subject to see samples of students work in each area.

The primary emphasis in level one is to involve students in a broad exploration of design by encouraging creativity, curiosity and invention.
On successful completion of level one students should have developed basic practical competencies in each subject area.
