istd. timeline of the wave
The istd timeline brief requested that it appeal to children. So along with a rhyming story, about the young surfer Timothee, rythmic to the waves i chose as my subject, i incorporated educational ocean knowledge that i hope have the power to awaken young and old alike in caring and enjoying the ocean and its waves in particular. The folding out to such a large area, expresses the impressive imensity of the ocean and the length of travel a wave migrates. The hand crafted tearing acts as foaming waves when turned up and demonstrate the irregular relief of the sea bed when turned down. Made with recycled paper, it can be read like a book or pined up on a wall. As a typography project there are many playfull typographics including fish, foam and waves made out of type. I used Meta all apart from the numbers and punctuation timeline itself made with Courier. All photography was taken at a cycle down in Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey and others in Bundoran, Co. Donegal, on a snowy winter' s day.
