Title: This Way They Came
Year: 2008

The film is set in the near future, where society has fallen into a state of chaos, having received an apocalyptic transmission from another world. The film begins with a six year old boy alone, and we watch his progression (through flashbacks), from being happy at home with his parents, to the point where he sees them die during a riot ouside his window, and ultmately left alone.

The aim was to capture how a six year old boy would be affected by such trauma. Apparently children tend to draw in times of emotional turmoil, so I based the sequence around this idea. The first 15 seconds were meant to be a pan in on a drawing on the wall that the boy drew of the family in happier times, and would have lead nicely into the second half of the sequence, where the flashback drawings kick in, but the footage i shot didn't work out, and so i settled for the pan in on the boys face.
